“Combating Misinformation through Media Literacy” grants

The Department of Communication and Internet Studies at the Cyprus University of Technology, in partnership with the Horizon 2020 Co-Inform project, the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth and the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus, are pleased to announce a call for “Combating Misinformation through Media Literacy” grants.

The call asks for synergies between at least two sectors (journalists, teachers, policymakers, the civil society, etc.), to promote a multilateral approach in addressing the problem of misinformation.

A small number of projects will be selected, with available funding up to 25,000 euros each. Submissions can be made in Greek or English.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Should the partners have Cypriot nationality or can they be European citizens as well?

Yes, the proposal can additionally include partners who are not Cypriots. The partners can have any nationality by a country of the European Union.

2. Can the proposal be submitted by legal persons or only natural persons?

A proposal can be submitted by both natural and legal persons registered in Cyprus or another country of the European Union. In the case of legal persons, their proposal should be accompanied by a confirmation letter assuring that the representative may submit the proposal on behalf of the organization.

3. Can I include people working in public or semi-public institutions?

Yes, you can include people who work in public, or semi-public institutions. In this case, these individuals should contact their institution to obtain any relevant permission or approval needed for their participation in the project.

4. Regarding the amount of EUR 25000, is it the maximum amount grantable or is the upper budget of a proposal?

This amount is the grant ceiling given to a proposal. The budget of the proposal may be greater than that amount.

5. In the case of supplemental funding from other sources; should any certificates be submitted, along with the proposal, to ensure the amount of the funding?

Not necessarily. However, if there is supplemental funding from other sources and the certification can be submitted, this would be positive for the evaluation of the proposal.

6. Up to what amount can be spent on wages?

In the budget file, there is a separate category for wages regarding the payment of personnel that has been hired for the purposes of the project, as described in the proposal, and for this category of wages there is no restriction. However, salaries involving permanent staff of an organisation/company or the natural person submitting the application are proposed to be in the range of 10% of the budget of the proposal.

7. Who is considered a beneficiary? Is there a minimum number of project beneficiaries?

The term “beneficiary” is used here to refer to all directly involved partners. There is no limit to the number of beneficiaries in a project.
